Immersive virtual reality is currently being explored as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of amblyopia.

The Neivatech R&D project, funded by the CDTI, began in July 2022 and concluded in July 2024. Its main objective was to design, develop, and test a computer-based system for children with amblyopia, using virtual and augmented reality technologies.

A pilot study was conducted to assess the preliminary efficacy, safety, usability, and user satisfaction of the NEIVATECH virtual reality system, aimed at providing binocular vision training in older children with amblyopia who had previously been treated but either failed to comply with or did not respond to patching therapy. The results of this study can be accessed via this link.
